GreenPeace

Greenpeace exists because this fragile earth deserves a voice. It needs solutions. It needs change. It needs action.

Greenpeace are an independent non-profit global campaigning organisation that uses non-violent, creative confrontation to expose global environmental problems and their causes. They research solutions and alternatives to help provide a path for a green and peaceful future.

Greenpeace are campaigning to:

- Protect the worlds ancient forests from destructive industrial logging. - To protect the worlds oceans from wasteful and destructive fishing practices. - Phase out fosil fuels and promote the renewable energy alternatives like wind power.

Help Greenpeace save the ancient forests.

Every two seconds an area of rainforest the size of a football pitch is destroyed. Already 80% of the world’s ancient forest has gone.

Greenpeace are doing everything they can to end this destruction and the trade that drives it. Despite years of promises, the UK Government has failed to ban the import of illegally logged timber products. A donation of just £3 a month will help Greenpeace continue to investigate the role that UK companies play in this destruction and to push for a new law to stop the import of illegal timber products.

Greenpeace recently undertook a major investigation into plywood on sale in builder’s merchants around the UK. They tracked this timber through Chinese sweatshops where timber is processed into plywood, back to illegal logging in the rainforest of Papua New Guinea. These rainforests are being destroyed to make throwaway plywood for building sites or movie sets.

Virtually all logging that takes place in Papua New Guinea is illegal, with deforestation rates so high, it is estimated these forests could be wiped out by 2020. This threatens the survival of the many plants and animals that depend on these unique forests for their survival, as well as causing violent conflicts and human rights abuse as communities are forced from their land by ruthless logging companies.

This is why Greenpeace need your help. A donation of just £3 a month will enable them to continue their work to protect ancient forests, like those of Papua New Guinea, a chance.
